Missoula is a sweet college town in Western Montana. It has a river that runs through the middle of town and it has a man-made feature in the middle of the town. Our feature is called Brennans Wave after Brennan Guth, a legend around the Missoula boating community. It was first created in 2004 and has been changing ever since bringing more and more people to the river and making kayaking accessible for anyone who wants to learn.
*The whitewater specific shop in town is Strongwater “The Surf Shop for the Mountains” (strongwaterkayak.com), which is located in the heart of Missoula on the hip strip only a block from Brennans wave.
The paddling community in Missoula is very strong and everyone can call each other friends. And if you just got off the river or got into town from your far away land, there are a lot of great bars and food joints around to fill you up. Missoula is lucky enough to be close to many great rivers and is a great place to come for college. In the immediate vicinity we have the Blackfoot river and the Alberton Gorge(Clark Fork river) and we also have Kootenai Creek only twenty minutes from downtown. Whether you kayak, ski, or both, Missoula is the perfect city for you.
Strongwater will be hosting a Boat-Board & Gear Swap this Saturday May 12th. Zootown Surfers Missoula’s Youth kayaking club will also be hosting their youth kayaking club registration from 12pm-5pm @ Strongwater.
