The Stonycreek River ( Specifically the Canyon Section ) deserves a place in the mention of great playboating destinations. With the recent addition of the whitewater park at GreenHouse Park on Tire Hill Road, the stony now offers amazing play at almost any runnable level. It seems as though when one spot goes out another comes in to take it’s place. The four sites shown in the pictures above are all seperate spots on the same great river, with three allowing for park n play. The playpark is good at a variety of levels and is best for aerial maneuvers at levels above 1100 cfs. When the park drops below this number the beach hole shown above is one sweet playspot and allows for cartwheels, loops, and just about any other hole trick you can think of. Even better you can drive right up to it via a service road that parallels the put-in for the canyon section of the Stony. The hole sits right next to a secluded little beach with a fire pit and you are allowed to camp there. The road hole is a high water big wave play feature and while the picture may be a little deceiving, the wave hole is approximately 5+ feet tall and very fast and retentive. There is a large eddy but a throw rope tied to a nearby tree makes getting back in a breeze. Then there is the 3rd sister showing eli mid loop. This feature is about 3 miles downstream from the put-in and at the level in the photo 3.5′ on the bridge gauge is a great playspot for most any hole moves. This is just a sampling of the fantastic play located all over the Stonycreek and I will be posting more goodies up in the near future.
