Atlanta Hometown Throwdown Event #3 – Chattahoochee Race Series
Each Tuesday in June (June 5, June 12, June 19, and June 26) @ 6 PM
Feature: Metro Section Chattahoochee
For the Atlanta 2012 HTTD Series we wanted to try something that we are passionate about and something new to our local series fo events. Downriver racing seems to be gaining popularity with the NOC Canoe Club Challenge Southeastern’s Downriver Race, Paddle for the Cure Race and Fun Float, and other local events, so we thought we would bring it to the 2012 Home Town Throw Down Series.
But this is more than one race, this is a series of 4 races held weekly over the month of June. Paddlers will be able to see how they measure up each week and see their overall progress at the end of the month. The Metro Section of the Chattahoochee is a class I – II run that lends itself as a great paddling resource located in our backyard. These races are open to paddlers of all skill levels from the beginner to the expert. One additional bonus the race series is FREE!
-Sign In/ Registration will begin @ 6 PM at Power’s Island put in. World Kayak will be providing on-line registration prior to the event and we will glady accept walk-on registrations on the day of the event, but we encourage you to use the on-line registration system to help us better prepare for the event. You can access the link http://worldkayakblogs.com/throwdown/register/
-There will be two parts to the race series – classic down river race and sprints.
- June 5 & 19 – Classic Down River Race from the put in landing to jump rock. It will be mass start.
- June 12 & 26 – Sprints. We will sprint through Devil’s Race Way.
-Times will be annouced at the finish, Paces Mill. Prizes will be given out at the last race held on June 26th, and will be based on participation and not times. Overall standings will also be given on that night, and winner’s will have bragging rights!!
