Hometown Throwdown – Harvie Passage

Located not far from downtown Calgary Alberta and right beside the Deerfoot Trail on the Bow River, the AFKA / World Kayak Harvie Passage Hometown Throwdown is usually hosted during high water runoff in June. This man made area plays host to a series of friendly…and not so friendly holes and waves, and provides challenges for everyone from beginners right on up to expert pro boaters. During the Harvie event, there will be many different seminars, clinics, and of course fierce (well, fun fierce) competition!

Plans for developing the  Harvie Passage feature began early in the century and was completed and available for public use in 2012. The area has undergone numerous facelifts over the years to make it a world class area for freestyle kayaking, and slalom activities alike.  You can learn more by visiting the Harvie Passage Calgary Bow River Weir Project page.

For the Hometown Throwdown, we plan on hosting some beginner / intermediate freestyle clinics, dry land educational clinics on canoe and kayak tripping, and water based clinics on refining your roll and basic swiftwater rescue techniques. Of course the afternoon will play host to Junior, Women’s, and Men’s classes in Beginner / Intermediate, and Advanced Freestyle Throwdown. View the attached schedule below for time and details.
